When Dust Bunnies Go Bad

For the past several months, starting somewhere in and around March or April of this year, my computer started acting very strangely. It would reboot sporatically, as well as blue-screen. I installed a temperature monitor thinking it might be running hot (after I had swapped out each piece of RAM that I had installed.. with little success) but with school and Europe, and moving, I figured a regular room fan would cool the system well enough in the meantime.

That meantime turned into 6 months of me having an open case with a ridiculously large fan blowing into it - and still I had problems.  Today I reached my breaking point. After a little research (thanks ncix.com) I decided on a Thermaltake Silent Boost and went out to rb computers in Nepean to pick one up - their last one. I installed the new one and then decided to look at the old one:

Gross! That would definitely cause temps to increase. The new one’s holding out ok so far, but its only been about half an hour, so we’ll see how it goes tomorrow.
